According to the Whatsapp FAQ section, Android phones running on Android 2.3.7  operating system and lower as well as iPhones running on iOS 8 & lower will not be compatible with the chat app in another couple of weeks from now.

The Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has stated that the older versions of these operating systems won’t be able to create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts from February 1.

For JIO users

the app will run for select phones with KaiOS 2.5.1+ OS, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

NOTE:

• If you are still using those versions of OS on your phones, and don’t want to lose all the chats, etc, then there is an option to save your chats.
• Tap ‘Export Chat’. You’ll then be given the option to download the chat with or without media. Choose your option and export all your chats.
• Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number. Keep in mind that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time.
• Furthermore, there’s no option to transfer your chat history between platforms. However, we provide the option to export your chat history as an email attachment.

Earlier, on 31 December 2019, WhatsApp withdrew support for Windows Phone operating systems stating that the app, “no longer actively develop for these operating systems, and thus, some features might stop functioning at any time.”
